To get a glimpse at pure joy, just look at the face of a child on Christmas morning. The anticipation and excitement of the holidays as experienced by a child is hard to match. For some children, though, the holidays are not so happy. Children living in poverty may not have the typical joy-filled experience of Christmas. Toys for Tots works to change that and send a message of hope.
Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 by Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks when his wife Diane asked him to donate some handcrafted dolls that she had made to an agency supporting needy children. When he couldn’t find one, she told him to start one and he did, collecting 5,000 toys that year. Toys for Tots helps to bring the joy of Christmas to disadvantaged children by providing them with a new toy. For kids who don’t have much, this simple gift can be a tangible sign of hope for the future. The Toys for Tots program is an opportunity for generous givers to invest in one of our most valuable resources – our children.
Federated Bank is pleased to be a collection center for the Toys for Tots program this year. If you would like to participate, just drop by a new, unwrapped toy to any of our local bank locations. Toys will be collected until December 6th. By joining us in supporting this program, you can make this Christmas more special for a child in need and send a message of hope for the future.
